Between Flowers and Lights – Installation x Art x Music in Düsseldorf
From July 25 to 31, 2025, a special group exhibition titled “Between Flowers and Lights” took place on Immermannstraße in Düsseldorf. Under the concept “Installation x Art x Music”, we presented the works of Hidetoshi Mito (Hananoma), light installations by Japanese artist Kazuki Taguchi, and live performances by Japanese musicians – pianist Yorika Kimura and her friends: a violinist, a violist, and an opera singer. They all performed mainly Japanese pieces, delighting the audience.
Goal and Concept of the Exhibition
My personal goal was to give German art lovers the opportunity to experience Hananoma’s works, which had previously only been available online, in person. Taguchi, of course, had his own goals with his light installations. However, as a group, we shared a common aim: to raise awareness of our works in Germany and to promote an appreciation of Japanese art and culture.
The space we created was delicate yet very beautiful. Every evening from around 8 p.m., live music attracted many visitors. As night fell, Taguchi’s handmade lamps, Mito’s paintings, and the music merged to create a unique atmosphere that conveyed the essence of Japanese art both visually and acoustically.
The exhibition was so successful that we decided to continue it. Another presentation is already scheduled for October in Ratingen.
